Fifteen years ago, Kate Starbird was a nerd majoring in computer science with a specialty too complicated to explain.

Now, after studying for her doctorate at the University of Colorado Boulder's Alliance for Technology, Learning, and Society (ATLAS) Institute, she will be returning to her home state, Washington, as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) at the University of Washington.
