Jayne's WNBA debut

In Jayne's first WNBA game, the Silver Stars lost 77-71 to the New York Liberty at home.

Jayne played the last 2:36 minutes of the third quarter. She scored an assist to Helen Darling, whose 3-point shot tied the game at 53-53 for a moment.

Nicole Powell was key to the Liberty's success. They were ahead by just three points with 24 seconds left to play when she pretty much sealed the victory with a 3-pointer. She finished with 15 points, including three of eight 3-pointers. She is off to a great start in her seventh season with the WNBA. She has scored in double digits in all four games of this young season, and her 3-point percentage is 0.579.

Catching up with Jayne

Jayne blogs:

Wow! What a whirlwind of events have taken place in my life throughout these past couple of weeks. The amount of time I had to make the mental transition between being a Stanford University student athlete to becoming a professional athlete and playing for the San Antonio Silver Stars was very minimal. I decided to make this blog about how crazy that time period is for every rookie coming out of college and making that change. Read more...

Fenerbahce is Turkish League champion

Fenerbahce topped a perfect season (29-0) with their fifth consecutive Turkish TBBL League championship.

Kristen Newlin hasn't played since mid-March when she tore a tendon in her foot. In the photo, she's the one in the back row wearing the yellow jersey. She twittered, "SAMPIYON (champion) FENER! Undefeated regular season....undefeated in playoffs. Championships never get old. Now I gotta go wash this champagne off me."

Nicole Powell played in the first two rounds of the playoff finals, but not in the third one – I don't know why.

Fenerbahce may win their sixth championship next season. They've signed Diana Taurasi for 2010-11.

Two videos of Jillian & Brooke in Italy

European professional women's basketball teams do not get much attention from the media. So it was a pleasant surprise to find two videos of Jillian and Brooke playing for Pool Comense in Italy.

This video features Jillian in one of the Italian A1 League playoff games. You can catch occasional glimpses of Brooke (#14) and learn that air ball in Italian is air ball.

This video is of the closing moments of a mid-season game in which Pool Comense, wearing its home pink, defeated Umana Reyer Venezia 67-66. Brooke was the star of this game — she scored 25 points. At 1:06 into the video, Brooke makes the go-ahead shot. On the next play, Jillian blocks Laura Harper's attempted winning shot, then Brooke blocks her second attempt, then "Arriba!" Comense celebrates its victory.
